The work is characterized by a connection with Lithuanian ethnography, myths, which are conveyed in the unique colors and light of this land. Lithuanian landscapes with a special combination of light-dappled greenery and blue sky and the perspective of the horizon of the Nemunas line. The plot is always generalized, painted with broad spontaneous strokes. Space does not spread into depth, but into the edges, into breadth.
Only fragments of large meadows, fields or gardens are always shown. In the still life cycles of various periods, the artist uses classical iconography and seeks a kind of dialogue with the old masters and modern painters through painting methods. In addition to oil painting on canvas, Vaitiekūnas has also worked extensively in watercolor and gouache on paper, draws, and creates sculptural objects from found objects. His works are in Lithuanian and foreign museums and private collections.
