Tomasz Daroch

 

Graduated with honours from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Manheim and from the Academy of Music in Łódź. Tomasz Daroch was a student of Michael Flaksman, Julius Berger, Jelena Očić, and Stanisław Firlej. The history of his studies includes also the masterclasses with Bernard Greenhouse, Miklós Perényi, Heinrich Schiff, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman and David Geringas. 

Tomasz Daroch is a prizewinner of many international cello competitions, i.a. Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (1st prize & Grand Prix), Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in Budapest (2nd prize) and Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition (1st prize). 

Tomasz Daroch made his debut with orchestra when he was 14, since then he has been performing with many distinguished conductors such as Cornelius Meister, Vladimir Spivakov, Jonathan Darlington, János Kovács, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Agnieszka Duczmal, Jerzy Salwarowski, Tadeusz Strugała, Marek Pijarowski and others. He has given concerts as a soloist and a chamber musician at many international festivals in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, England, Italy, France, Croatia, Russia, Switzerland, Brazil and the USA. 

Artist has done many recordings for radio and television. To his last CD achievements belong i.a. Witold Lutosławski’s Cello Concerto recorded with NFM Wrocław Philharmonic conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk (CD Accord), piano trios of C. Debussy, M. Ravel and A. Dvorak with ensemble “Daroch Trio” (DUX) and many works for four cellos with Polish Cello Quartet (CD Accord and Chandos). 

Tomasz Daroch currently teaches at the Academy of Music in Lodz, where he recently received a doctoral degree. From 2019 he is also a cello section leader of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra.
