Attention! Attention! On May 16, 6:30 p.m., the old-fashioned "Magazine of Curiosities" is back! This time it is dedicated to the memory of the legendary masters of the small stage - Daniel Pomeranz and Antanas Dvarionas. 

This year marks 120 years since the birth of Daniel Pomeranz (1904-1983). He was not only a famous violinist, but also a pioneer of Lithuanian popular and jazz music. While imprisoned in the Kaunas ghetto, he and other Jewish musicians organised the Ghetto Prisoners' Orchestra, whose symphonic music helped many of his compatriots to remain spiritually strong during the Nazi occupation. It is also the 125th anniversary of the birth of Antanas Dvarionas (1899-1950), one of the most famous pioneers of stage music in Lithuania. Antanas, the elder brother of the composer Balys Dvarionas, was an organist, choirmaster, tuner of musical instruments, soloist at the State Theatre, and a prominent legend of the small stage. During the Soviet era, Danielius Pomerantz and Antanas Dvarionas fled to Canada.

The programme will feature the atmosphere of Kaunas cafés between the world wars, "smetonic" delicacies and "Pomerantz in chocolate", and will include interwar small-stage variety music, urban romances, Yiddish songs, and authentic recordings of shellac records played on a vintage gramophone.

The word "magazin" (from the French "magasin") has several meanings: it is a historical storehouse, a spare box with a honeycomb frame in a beehive, a box/container for an appliance or apparatus; in the inter-war years, we even referred to a magazin as a shop or a magazine... And our magazin is not only a collection of historical artefacts, but also a file of interesting personalities, about whom we want to tell stories and tell stories. Some of them may be familiar to you, others may have been forgotten, and some of them you may be hearing about for the very first time... So we invite you to EXPERIENCE together: to talk, to discover, to get rich, to see, to taste, to improve, to try... And maybe even to buy or exchange something.
