Since 2004, composer Gintaras Sodeika, a long-time witness of Druskomania, has been capturing images of the festival on camera. His documentary film, or, according to the author, video diaries, give a better understanding of the phenomenon of Druskomania itself. In Steamboat, Sodeika captures moments of concerts, breaks between concerts, leisure time during festivals, football matches, afternoon and evening afters, and, of course, the steamboat ride to Liškiava.
Steamboat takes us to Druskininkai, where, without any goal or plan, I have been capturing moments of Lithuania's oldest and still alive contemporary music festival for about twenty years with a pocket camera. I mostly shot the behind-the-scenes episodes of the festival, as they were apparently the most interesting for me. I tried to show how the festival has changed, how we ourselves have or have not changed, I looked for the germs of interdisciplinary art and how they are taking root in the work of composers and musicologists, in the community, well... you get the idea - nothing serious... Is it possible to use a video camera to capture the air we breathed in Druskininkai for many years in May? One day I decided to try...", says Gintaras Sodeika.
