On 1 October, the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Austrian composer and founder of the New Viennese School, A. Schoenberg (1874-1951). One of his most important chamber music opuses, the piano trio "The Night Has Broken", will be performed at Vilnius Town Hall on the 100th of January. This evening the work will be performed by violinist Justina Zajančauskaitė, cellist Rokas Vaitkevičius and pianist Simona Zajančauskaitė.
Beginning to compose the work at the threshold of the twentieth century, in 1899, Schoenberg wrote it in just three weeks, although he returned to this score of great importance for him three times later, and revisited it towards the end of his life. The musical dramaturgy of the work was inspired by a poem by the German poet Richard Dehmel (1863-1920), who was close to Expressionism, from the collection Man and Woman. It tells the story of a man and a woman walking in the moonlight who reveal a secret to their lover: she is pregnant with another man's baby... The work captures the composer's feelings when he meets Matilda, the sister of his teacher Alexander Zemlinsky, the future A. Schönberg's future wife.
