Biography
Rokas Vaitkevičius was born on November 20, 1989. He began playing piano at the age of five and cello at the age of nine. His teacher and mentor was K.V. Petrauskas. In 2008, he graduated from Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium. Currently, he is studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in the class of professor Rimantas Armonas. He has won numerous international and national competitions. Rokas has performed as a soloist with the Kaunas Symphony and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestras. He is a chamber musician and has performed in various foreign countries such as Italy, Austria, Russia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, France, Finland, Sweden, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, and China. Rokas has improved his skills under the guidance of professors like Johannes Meissl, Othmar Muller (Artis Quartet, Austria), Hatto Beyerle (Co-Founder of Alban Berg Quartett, Austria), Alfred Brendel (Austria), Miguel da Silva, Yovan Markovich (Ysaÿe Quartet, France), Avedis Kouyoumdjian (Austria), Petr Prause (Talich Quartet, Czech Republic / England), Josef Kluson (Pražák Quartet, Czech Republic), Evgenia Epshtein (Aviv Quartet, Israel), Piotr Tarcholik, Zdislaw Lapinski, Urszula Marciniec-Mazur (Poland), Paavo Pohjola, Erki Lahesmaa (Finland), Sergej Roldugin (Russia), Yvan Chiffoleau (France), Jeroen Reuling (Belgium), and Hege Waldeland (Sweden). Since 2011, he has been a member and co-founder of Mettis String Quartet. Rokas is an active concert performer in Lithuania and abroad with this ensemble. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.
