Event description
November 16, 6 pm. On 16 November 16, 16:00 at the Panevėžys Musical Theatre, an evening of music by Antonín Dvořák will take place, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Panevėžys Musical Theatre. The concert will feature one of Lithuania's most prominent piano musicians, pianist Petras Geniušas, and the Panevėžys String Quartet - Asta Striogaitė-Puodžiūnienė (1st violin), Diana Labudienė (2nd violin), Girdutis Jakaitis (viola), and Rokas Vizbaras (cello). The first part of the concert will feature three Slavonic Dances (Nos. 1 and 8, Op. 46, and No. 2, Op. 72), adapted for string quartet, while the second part of the concert will feature the magnificent Piano Quintet No. 2, Op. 81 in A major, performed by pianist P. Geniušas together with the Panevėžys String Quartet.
"The Piano Quintet is one of the most famous and beautiful examples of this genre ever written. It is full of romance, joyful and profound at the same time. It is a complex work that requires mastery," says Geniušas, who will perform with the Panevėžys String Quartet for the first time.
Maestro Petras Geniušas is an exceptionally versatile performer who has mastered a wide repertoire of classical and contemporary works, and who is constantly searching for new, often risky, forms of expression, and for unusual musical and spiritual experiences. He gives recitals and performs as a soloist with Lithuanian symphony orchestras, various chamber ensembles and soloists. He can be seen on stage accompanying drama performances, ballet or even cabaret, and participating in projects that cross jazz and various musical styles.
The Panevėžys String Quartet, formed in 1997, combines experience and youthful vigour. The talented musicians A. Striogaitė-Puodžiūnienė, D. Labudienė, G. Jakaitis and R. Vizbars' work includes classical pearls, contemporary experimental music, works of different eras, genres and styles, including entertainment and jazz compositions. Each year the quartet prepares several programmes of various kinds and often performs in concerts with other artists.
Antonín Dvořák is one of the most prominent Czech composers, a representative of Romanticism. He masterfully combined the classics with national music in his works, and was fond of experimentation. His opera The Mermaid was particularly famous.
