Event description
"autumn" began with thoughts of an in-between state, of the horror and gift of an unnamed feeling of the present. In the five works, the artist(s) invite us to enter, or to look from the side, at the relationship between the material and the human, between ways of being, generations, emptiness and fill, synthesised and homogeneous something. Two hundred years ago, when Adam Mickiewicz began to write his poem "The Lamentations", he was a young artist, experiencing the destructive force of imperialism, personal loss, heartache, the pressures of success and the market. He transformed his collective and personal anxiety into the figure of a ghost. The works are also ghosts. Like the ghost in the poem, they are mediators between different times and spaces, they remain in the same age, they linger in the infinity of the moment, and they travel through the walls of the old house. "Autumn" reminds us that it is not only the seasons that repeat themselves." (Kotryna Markevičiūtė and Ona Juciūtė) At the Contemporary Art Centre (Vokiečių g. 2, Vilnius) until 5 January 2025.
