This is a film about a unique moment in the history of the Lithuanian nation that will forever be immortalised in the history of cinema. It is a lesson in freedom for the whole world. "It is important as a reminder that courage is the most important weapon even in the hands of a small nation, capable of destroying an evil empire," says director S. Loznica.
In 1990, Vytautas Landsbergis, a professor, music historian, philosopher and charismatic political leader, led his country out of the Soviet Union and forced Mikhail Gorbachev to recognise its sovereignty. Now, more than 30 years after the collapse of the USSR, one of the founding fathers of the independence movement is reflecting back on the dramatic events of 1988-1991 and reminding the world, step by step, of the courageous Lithuanian struggle for freedom, the extraordinary sacrifice of its people, the patriotic songs that used to ring out in the town squares and the crazy, sleepless nights when we stood shoulder-to-shoulder against military hardware to defend our Lithuania. All this is a living history lesson for present and future generations, passed on by a personality who was at the epicentre of the most heated events of that time.
, "I was curious about what the Western world knows about our events. Thanks to this film, I will certainly learn more. It is important for me because it is part of my life, the life of my nation, our common destiny," says Landsbergis.
In the film, the history of Lithuania, from the first Sąjūdis rallies to the withdrawal of the last Russian soldier in 1993, is not only revealed by V.
