Ukrainian director Sergejus Loznica (b. 1964) of Belarusian origin is one of the most famous Eastern European filmmakers. His feature films and documentaries participated in Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals and won prestigious prizes. S. Loznica's films, which sharply analyze the confrontation between the post-Soviet mass consciousness and the individual, raise debates and controversial assessments - especially in today's Russia, where their distribution is officially prohibited.
