April 19. Kaunas will resound with accordion melodies. The 10th International Accordion Competition "Ascoltate" brings together musicians and music lovers from all over Lithuania and abroad. The Kaunas Philharmonic will offer a unique opportunity to get to know the most influential performers of this music up close. These are the world-renowned talents Samuele Telari (Italy), Momir Novakovič (Serbia-Estonia) and Laimonas Salijus (Lithuania). They will perform with the VMU Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maestro Vytautas Lukočius.
The organisers intend to please fans of various genres of music with a carefully selected programme, from Bach concertos to contemporary original accordion music. The concert is intended for both the sophisticated music lover with refined taste and the beginner who wants to get acquainted with the enchanting interplay of the accordion and the string orchestra.
Samuele TELARI is an Italian accordionist who is an active and successful soloist, performer of chamber music, and pedagogue. Recent recitals at the Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus in Berlin have captivated audiences. Samuele has taken part in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Verbier, Cheltenham and Schlesmern Music Festivals, collaborated with the Pablo Barragan, Leonkoro, Esme and Simply Quartets, and will make his debut in 2022 with the Haydn Orchestra under Kent Nagano. Samuele is active throughout Europe, performing in the most prestigious concert halls in Milan, Rome, Strasbourg and elsewhere. As a soloist he has appeared with the Fonè Quartet. In 2017 he released a solo album Limes and in 2020 Broken Shake.
MOMIR NOVAKOVIČ is an accordionist from Serbia and a lecturer of accordion at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Lasnamäe School of Music in Tallinn, Estonia. Momir studied at the Serbian school with the deepest traditions of accordion music, and at the Kragujevac School of Music, where he graduated from the world-renowned teacher Prof. Milijan Bjelitic. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Svizzera Italiana Conservatory in Lugano, Switzerland. Momir can often be heard performing solo programmes as well as in various ensembles. He is a member of Trio Ambasador. He regularly collaborates with composers such as Nadir Vassena, Wolfgang Rhim, Mattias Steinhauer, Giovanni Santini, Alessio Sabella, Tamara Basaric and others, who have created new modern music for accordion at his initiative. He has won more than 40 prizes in international competitions, including 2nd prize in the 2008 Coupe mondiale World Accordion Championship and 2nd prize in the Città di Castelfidardo Accordion Competition in Italy.
In 2014 Momir was awarded the Ambassador Club Prize in Lugano, Lugano, for his 2nd prize in the International Competition for All Musical Instruments Prix Credit Suisse and his outstanding musical career. The Fritz Gerber Foundation of Basel and Princess Elisabeth of Yugoslavia contributed to Momir's successful career. Since 2021 he is the initiator and artistic director of the international accordion festival AccordionfEST.
LAIMONAS SALIJUS is one of the most renowned accordionists in Lithuania today. He is a winner and prize-winner of many national and international competitions in the USA, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia. In 2015, he was awarded the title of the second accordionist in the world at the World Accordion Championships "World Cup" (Salzburg, Austria) and "World Trophy" (Kaunas). He regularly performs in Lithuania and abroad as a soloist and member of various ensembles, and has prepared programmes together with soloists Giedrius Prunskas, Jonas Sakalauskas, Dovile Kazonaite and others. He has given solo recitals in Serbia, Georgia, Brazil, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Italy, and has performed with the VMU Chamber Orchestra, Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, Kaunas Musical Theatre Symphony Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Calabria Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Brazilian National Theater Orchestra.
VDU CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, founded in 2011 at Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Music, is the only professional chamber orchestra in Kaunas. It was founded not only to expand the culture of classical music and its contemporary interpretations in the temporary capital, but also to represent Lithuania, the city of Kaunas and the university on an international level and to represent them abroad. During its relatively short existence, the orchestra has already performed more than 200 concerts in Lithuania and abroad - in Cyprus, Germany, USA, Sakartveld, and has participated in the most famous Lithuanian international music festivals. In 2013, the orchestra released a CD "Ekspresija" (Expression) of Lithuanian composers, in 2017 a double CD and a vinyl record "Two different sides" by Liutauras Janušaitis, and in 2020 a CD "Two different sides" by Lithuanian composers. In the same year, a CD of meditation music, Infinity, and in 2021, on the occasion of the Orchestra's 10th anniversary, a CD of Lithuanian composers' works, Fractal.
