Ave Vellesalu-Murd's exhibition Memoria speaks to viewers about "blowing away the pain" in both literal and metaphorical senses. In childhood, after all, there was always someone close by to "blow a wound" or a painful spot, instantly alleviating suffering. In early autumn, the warm summer wind also blows the dead leaves outside and they also fall to the ground, caught by the movement of the air. Leaves that have "lived their lives", like a burden on a tree, resemble painful memories arising from unexpected events, which must be pushed out of memory to make room for new things in spring. Ave Vellesalu-Murd is a contemporary artist and musician based in Tallinn, Estonia. She studied art at the Estonian Academy of Fine Arts, Tallinn and the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki. Her work focuses on moving spatial installations, intertwined with video and sound projections. She also uses different natural materials to create new indoor experiences, focusing on the problems of sterilising everyday organic products. Ave Vellesalu-Murd is a founder and member of the popular musical duo Vera Vice.
