Ž. Martinaitytė. World premiere of the vocal cycle
This year the 15th LVSO Summer Festival begins with a spectacular solo recital by opera star Edgars Montvidas in the new LVSO Concert Hall. The soloist will present an exceptional programme to the audience - together with Schumann's most famous song cycle "The Poet's Love", songs by S. Barber and R. Strauss, the concert will also feature a spectacular world premiere - a vocal cycle by the New York-based winner of the National Prize for Culture and Arts, Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, written especially for Montvidas. Montvidas will be accompanied by one of the most renowned British accompanists and chamber musicians, pianist Simon Lepper, who is a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Edgaras Montvidas is a well-known name in the world of opera elite. He has created more than 40 roles at the English National, London's Royal Covent Garden, the Dutch National, Geneva, Frankfurt, Lyon, Paris, Brussels, Strasbourg, Cincinnati, Santa Fe (USA) and other opera houses. In addition to opera productions, the singer performs extensively with leading symphony orchestras in Europe, the USA and Japan in prestigious concert halls such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Berlin Philharmonic and others. In 2020, Montvidas became Artistic Director of the Pažaislis Music Festival. In 2023 he was awarded the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize.
