On the initiative of Professor Donatas Katkus, the St Christopher Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1994 to perform Baroque music, but the newly-formed ensemble of professional musicians certainly did not intend to stop there. Already in its first year of existence, the ensemble prepared an impressive programme and toured Poland, where it received praise from Krzysztof Penderecki himself. The orchestra, which will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary this year, has built up a varied repertoire over the years: after gaining a reputation as a "baroque orchestra", it has continued to broaden its musical scope and play more and more contemporary works by Lithuanian and foreign composers, and today it is renowned as a versatile, professional orchestra, distinguished by its artistic imagination and happy to contribute to a wide range of social and artistic activities.
Modestas Barkauskas, the Orchestra's Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, made his debut in 2009 at Klaipėda State Musical Theatre and in 2012 at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he has conducted some of the orchestra's productions to date. In the concert, the conductor will stand in front of St. The conductor will join the Christopher Chamber Orchestra and the Polyphony Choir in performing Pēteris Vasks' Mass. Originally written for choir and organ, the five-movement work in the form of a typical Christian mass was originally written for choir and organ, but when the composer heard the sound of the voices and strings, he was impressed by the performance, so the score has been adapted for performance with a symphony orchestra.
The programme includes P. Vasks' "Mass".
