Event description
In this exhibition, the artist continues her series of works inspired by the spiritual teachings of the founder of the Senukus supermarket chain, which have accompanied the business since its early days. By creating fan fiction content (fan fiction is the creation of fans based on existing fiction), the artist attempts to unlock the tensions, passions and frustrations that arise between power and faith, encoded in rituals and hidden beneath the promises of DIY. Fan fiction is not usually loosely connected to the original, but can interpret its source of inspiration in quite radical ways, using genres as diverse as comics, fiction, amateur cinema or even pornography. In this case, the inspiration for the exhibition comes from the spiritual teachings of the Lithuanian entrepreneur who founded the Senukus supermarket chain, his books, his radio show and his company's symbolism. The artist's chosen expression is a sculptural installation and video work that combines the aesthetics of an indie feature film with digital landscapes, collected documentary footage and the ecstatic confession of a lonely follower. This exhibition, according to the artist, is a farewell song to capitalism as she knows it and as her generation grew up with it. At the same time, this rethinking of a phenomenon that has already passed decades offers a perspective from which to take a fresh look at the contemporary landscape of technofeudalism, where new unicorns and completely different prophets are in the midst. The Contemporary Art Centre (Vokiečių g. 2, Vilnius) will be open until 4 May.
