Collective Sous le Manteau explores the relationship between "us and our environment" in Mikado: Short Stories of the Fall, continuing the relationship between "self and others" explored in their previous work, Monstro. On stage, the unstable structure of Chinese pillars, reminiscent of a giant game of Mikado, is programmed to collapse repeatedly. Just like the game, the thrill comes from knowing that everything can come crashing down at any moment!Every collapse dictates a new beginning, providing an opportunity to build differently. However, even if the same mistakes are not repeated, one thing is clear - others will be made. Six acrobats pursue the craziest ambitions. The enclosed and immovable space acts as an emergency test track for pilots without a clear flight plan. Add 41 poles and lots of ropes. The stage is set. Let the game begin…***Critics' corner“Six Chinese pole acrobats are set in the giant Mikado game; 41 game sticks are scattered around them. in 2023 the theme of the work, as in Mikado's play, is collapse. Bodies fall, responding to the collapse of our fragile, unstable environment. This phenomenon requires a rethinking of collective organization, our relationships with others, our daily life... On the ground, in the air, in disorder or in line - the structure of the poles increases the acrobatic and expressive potential of artists". Frédéric Chapuis | 09.01.23 | TéléramaThe collective Sous le Manteau gathers Chinese pole acrobats from various European circus schools in order to update the formats of this type of circus in collective practice. Acrobats are united by a common idea, not by leadership aspirations. This is a group adventure. Their first work, Monstro (2019), received acclaim from both audiences and critics. The play was performed 56 times and traveled all over France and Europe.
