This time I. Liukaitytė presents to the audience a programme entitled "The Music of Longing". The basis of the concert is home: Lithuania, Kaunas, her parents' home, the grammar school she attended as a child, love and longing for what is so dear and unforgettable.
In "Mariums" by M. K. Čiurlionis, she will tell her grandmother's story, who grew up at the bottom of the Kaunas Lagoon and the longing for her native home that has been going on all her life. The Nocturne by J. Naujalis is a tribute to the pianist's beloved Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium, which enriched her childhood and encouraged her to follow the path of music.
M. Ravel's sparkling waltzes full of wonders will take you to an enchanted world, where, like in a fairy tale in a banquet hall, the princesses and kings dance a waltz and the wooden horses, which were once seen in the fairy tales, come to life, are broken from the carousel wheel. They carry us away with them, too, as we try to grow up as fast as we can in our childhood and set off for the world of our dreams. Away from our childhood and our parents' home, but still waking up, as if from a dream, with an infinite longing for what we never expected to lose.
The concert ends with Chopin's mature and expressive Third Sonata. Its composer was also an emigrant, who longed for his homeland all his life and asked for his heart to be buried in his native Poland after his death. The four movements of the sonata are like a stained-glass window of longing made up of various parts, with which I. Liukaitytė will convey her own longing for her home - Lithuania, Kaunas, her native home, and with the triumphant fourth movement she will greet Lithuania on the occasion of the upcoming March 11th.
