A musical dedication by saxophonist Jan Maksimovičius and pianist Dmitri Golovanov to the genius of M.K. Čiurlionis, whose piano preludes are interwoven with the improvisations of the musical tandem of jazz musicians, which has been cultivated and developed for over two decades.
More than 100 years after his death, M.K.Čiurlionis's works are still a source of inspiration for many artists. The beauty, fragility and grandeur of the Lithuanian genius's music will be revealed by two masters of improvised music - Dmitrij Golovanov and Jan Maksimovič.
In this improvisational interpretation of Čiurlionis, the performers deliberately refuse to use the jazz stereotypes, instead using elements of Čiurlionis' authentic music. In some cases, complete pieces are expanded and developed into larger forms, and in others, motifs from Čiurlioni's music become a springboard for the performers' intellect into a world of Čiurlionian symbols and fantasies."
,We have been performing and studying Čiurlioni's music for a very long time. In the beginning it was the intention to modernise and actualise Čiurlionis. However, in the long run we discovered that we did not change Čiurlionis, he changed us. Our thinking, our performance, our perception of the music - everything has changed with our deeper knowledge of Čiurlionis" says Golovanov.
Both musicians are among the country's most prominent improvisational and jazz musicians, with many concerts on the country's most important stages, countless collaborations with foreign artists and a wide range of concerts abroad, but the most important thing for them is the live musical communication with the listener "here and now", the experience of every second and the music being born right here, in which the listener becomes a participant.
