One of the brightest and most active Lithuanian jazz pianists, a versatile and modern musician. In his manner of performance, he always demonstrates excellent knowledge of the jazz language and is not afraid to go outside the boundaries of tradition. Already appreciated abroad and in Lithuania, the pianist and jazzman playfully travels between musical genres, performing both traditional jazz and free jazz improvisations. Also, the musician boldly experiments in electroacoustic music. D. Golovanov's performance is characterized by special expression: the sound speaks expressively, the melody lines penetrate the consciousness by themselves, and the pulsation of the rhythm "charges" every listener.
In 2007, he became the winner of the "Vilnius Jazz Young Power" competition, and in 2008 - Grand Prix winner of the jazz pianist competition "Jazz Improvisation". in 2012 reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Montreux Solo Jazz Piano competition in Switzerland, and in 2013 became a finalist of the "European Jazz Competition" in Rotterdam. He is also no stranger to free jazz (Mockūna NuClear, Arkadij Gotesman, Lithuanian Art Orchestra). D. Golovanov boldly experiments with electronics in the "Infiltrators" duet with Jan Maksimovičius. And as an arranger and performer, he breathed new life into Chopin's music in the Chopin JazzInn project with Evelina Sashenko and Georgian folk songs in the Shorena Džianiashvili project.
