The Swiss conductor and flutist Kaspar Zehnder, renowned for his exceptional talent, hails from the foothills of the Alps, in the Canton of Bern. He studied flute and conducting in Bern, Paris, Siena and at the European Mozart Academy.
Since his successful debut in 2007 at the famous La Scala in Milan, he has conducted many of the most renowned orchestras throughout Europe. Since 2018 he has been Principal Conductor of the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic), and from 2012 to 2022 he was Principal Conductor of the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland. From 1999 to 2020, Zehnder was Artistic Director of the Swiss Summer Festival Murten Classics, and from 2004 to 2012 he was Music Director of the renowned modern art museum Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern. As a flutist, he regularly gives chamber music concerts with renowned partners on stage.
His repertoire includes a wide range of symphonic and vocal works, from Bach's great oratorios to contemporary chamber music, as well as almost all the symphonic music of the Classical and Romantic periods, with an emphasis on the unknown, the new and the newly discovered. The evening will culminate in a Mass by the Austrian genius F. Schubert, performed by the Kaunas State Choir and soloists together with the orchestra.
