Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer who lived between 1797 and 1828. He is known for his beautiful melodies and contributions to the Romantic era of classical music. Schubert wrote over six hundred Lieder (songs), nine symphonies, and a variety of other orchestral, chamber, and piano works. Despite his short life, Schubert's music has had a lasting impact on Western classical music and he remains one of the most beloved composers of all time.
