"Mickiewicz in Song" with Renata Drozd (soprano) and pianists Artur Jaron and Magdalena Trzebińska
A romantic evening at the legendary Palanga Kurhaus Concert Hall dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Lithuanian and Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz's stay in Palanga.
Polish performers - soprano Renata Drozd and the piano duo of Artur Jaron and Magdalena Trzebińska - will perform a programme steeped in romanticism. The programme will include songs based on the poems of A. Mickiewicz, "to comfort the heart", songs full of love and longing for the homeland, and little heard duets by I. Paderewski and A. Tansman.
A. Mickiewicz's visit to Palanga was a fateful one for both the composer and the city. In July 1824, A. Mickiewicz came to the resort town to treat his deteriorating health and, probably for the first time in his life, saw the sea, which left a lasting impression on the poet. The sea, the wide sandy beaches, the dunes, the trees and the sand, the pure air, the bathing, strengthened body and soul, and stimulated his creativity. The stay did not last long, but even after his departure A. Mickevičius did not forget Palanga and became the first poet to tell the world about the beauty of this city.
1828. In his poem "Conrad Valenrod", published in 1918, he wrote: "...But on the shore of Palanga, where the sea is noisy with its breasts and the sea is whitening and pouring out foamy sand from its estuaries..."
The Tiškevičius family, which ruled Palanga at that time, also did not forget the poet's visit, and they built two villas named after the heroes of his poems, Aldona, from "Konradas Valenrodas", and Gražina from the work by the same title.
The romanticism of Mickiewicz will be brilliantly revealed in the miniatures, which are strung together like pearls in this programme, by renowned Polish artists.
Renata Drozd is one of the most prominent vocalists in Poland, a winner of international competitions, who has worked with all the major theatres in the country, where she has performed the main roles not only in opera, but also in the most popular operettas.
R. Drozd has received many honourable awards, including the Diploma of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding artistic achievements, the Polish Honorary Medal for Merit in Polish Culture, and the Prize for Education in Culture.
Pianist Arturas Jaronas is already familiar to our audience. He is renowned as a soloist and performer in chamber ensembles, and has played with many well-known symphony orchestras - Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra Amadeus, Polish Radio and Television Orchestra, etc. He frequently performs abroad - in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Slovakia, Ukraine, etc. In chamber ensembles he has played with Teresa Żylis-Gara, Malgorzata Walewska, Wieslaw Ochmaun and Adam Zdunikowski. He also accompanies solo violinists such as Ludmila Worobec-Witek, Saskia Szreder, Bartek Nizioł and Henryk Wieniawski.
In 2005, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.
A. Jaron is the head of the Music College in Kielce, has received numerous awards for his musical achievements and activities, and has made numerous recordings, including the rarely performed Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Concerto for Piano and Violin with Ludmila Vorobec-Witek.
Magdalena Trzebińska, who will be playing the four-handed duet with Jaron, is regarded as an excellent chamber musician who has performed extensively in Poland and abroad. Since 2021, Magdalena Trzebińska has been performing with Jaroń and teaching piano.
