Polish and Lithuanian poet, playwright, publicist. The most famous Polish romantic, his life and work are connected with Lithuania.
In 1817, while studying at Vilnius University, he participated in the activities of the Philomat Society, and was one of its organizers. 1824-1829 lived in Russia since 1832 mainly in Paris. The collection "Poetry" (1822-1823) marked the beginning of Polish romanticism. He wrote the dramatic poem "Vēlinės" (1823), the poems "Gražina" (1823), "Konrad Valenrod" (1828), "Ponas Tadas" (1834), the collection "Crimean Sonnets" (1826).
