Mindaugas Navakas's works are well known even to people who are not interested in the field of art, as his giant sculptural objects are an important part of both Lithuanian and foreign city spaces and buildings. These include works such as "The Hook" on the former railwaymen's palace in Vilnius, "The Bunk" by the Neris River, or "The Four Great Unsubsidiaries" next to the MO Museum. Navakas belongs to the generation that renewed the expression of sculpture in the 1980s and 1990s and contributed to the change of the concept of sculpture in Lithuania. He is like a sculptor-researcher, constantly analysing different materials, not shying away from large-scale sculptures as well as small-scale sculptures, photography or graphics. It is the materiality and form of the works that Navakas allows to reflect a sometimes serious, sometimes ironic attitude towards the surrounding environment. The gallery (AV17) (Totorių g. 5, Vilnius) will be open until 21 November.
