Hear the enchanting world of Renaissance and Baroque music, where every note tells a story of love, loss and celebration. This concert is a celebration of the enduring beauty of early music, offering audiences an unforgettable experience of musical mastery. The a capella programme by the Šiauliai State Chamber Choir Polifonija promises an unparalleled experience, involving you in an authentic encounter with the music of bygone eras. A cappella singing is closely linked to the Baroque and Renaissance periods, reflecting the characteristic vocal expression and polyphony of these eras.
From the joyful spring skin in Thomas Morley's Now is the month of maying to the bittersweet beauty of Jacob Arcadelt's popular 16th-century madrigal Il bianco dolce cigno, the listener will be invited to experience a range of emotions. The sacred and the sublime will merge in Barlomiej Pekiel's Magnum nomen Domini or Henry Purcell's English Baroque choral composition Remember not, Lord, Our Offences. The sacred part of the programme, with William Byrd's Ave verum corpus and Tomas Luis de Victoria's O quam gloriosum, will allow you to experience moments of transcendent beauty. Towards the end of the concert, the rhythmic and atmospheric 'Tanzen und Springen' by Hans Leo Hassler and 'Das Glaut zu Speyer' by Ludvig Senfl will inspire springtime fun and dancing, while the Elizabethan lute song 'Come Again Sweet Love' by the genius of the Renaissance, John Downland, will allow you to experience the melancholy beauty of an expressive vocal.
Participants: Šiauliai State Chamber Choir "Polifonija" (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Linas Balandis) Conductor Povilas Vanžodis
