William Byrd was born in 1543 and was the last great English composer to write Catholic religious music. His life was difficult, he faced many trials, but during his lifetime he wrote many Catholic and Anglican religious hymns and antiphons. His most famous work is the Catholic motet 'Ave Verum Corpus.' Although he died in 1623, his music is still performed and influences future composers.
