The Symphony Orchestra of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT) performs more than just opera and ballet performances. It often accompanies famous soloists and organises its own concert performances of various symphonic works. In this concert, the orchestra will be accompanied by two young and very talented soloists: soprano Gabrielė Bukinė and mezzo-soprano Skirmantė Vaičiūtė. Over the years they have both been noticed and appreciated by audiences and critics. The soloists will perform vocal works by two distinguished Lithuanian composers, Giedrius Kuprevičius and Anatolijs Šenderovas, which speak sensitively and meaningfully to the listener's feelings. For the 150th anniversary of Čiurlionis' birth, fragments of Kuprevičius' ballet Čiurlionis will be performed.
In the second part of the concert, the LNOBT Symphony Orchestra invites you to listen to Symphony No.9 in E minor by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, which is known by the name of the Symphony "From the New World". The composer has always been interested in the folklore of the Czechs and other nations, and when he came to the United States to direct the American National Conservatory of Music, Dvořák delved into the depths of Indian and African-American ethnic music and was particularly fascinated by the sacred music of the black people - the spiriciles, whose influence is heard in this piece. Written in New York, this symphony has become not only Dvořák's most famous symphony, but also one of the most famous symphonies in the world.
