in 1968 graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music prof. Eduard Balsi's composition class. 1966-1975 taught at the Juozas Gruodis Higher Music School. He also conducted music electives at the Lithuanian University of Agriculture, Kaunas University of Technology, taught an acting course at Vilnius University, prepared a musical improvisation course at the faculties of the Lithuanian Academy of Music in Kaunas.
1990-1999 taught at Vytautas Magnus University Faculty of Arts, 2000 appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at KTU, on his initiative in 2001 the Audio and Video Technology Center has been opened at this university, and the Computer Music Club is operating. While developing his pedagogical activities, the composer has prepared a number of works of methodical literature.
1971-1982 Giedrius Kuprevičius headed the Kaunas branch of the Lithuanian Composers' Union, 1980-1987. – for the electronic music group Argo of the Kaunas Music Theater. 1987-1988 worked as editor-in-chief of music programs on Lithuanian television. Since 1957 constantly rings the Kaunas carillon, and in 1998 appointed chief bell ringer of the city of Kaunas. Served in public positions: First Deputy Minister of Culture of Lithuania and Head of the Board of Arts (1988–1990), Vice Mayor of Kaunas (1992–1993).
Since 1968 the composer constantly cooperates with the Lithuanian press, writes about music journalism and cultural studies in the magazines Muzikos barai, Santara, Humanistika, etc. He has published books of essays - Atbuli matari and Juk zapata.
Giedrius Kuprevičius participates in music festivals, conventions, symposiums in Lithuania and abroad. His musical Ugnies medziklė cu varovas was staged in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. The oratorio The creation of the world at the end of the 20th century was performed at the Kaunas Jazz festival (1988), the world exhibition EXPO-2000 in Hanover, and the international forum in Vienna. His other works were played at concerts in various European countries, America, Australia, New Zealand.
Giedrias Kuprevičius' music is moderately modern, the development of musical material is based on melodism and augmentations of rhythmic structures. In many of the works, the dominance of the improvisational beginning and clear connections with literature or fine art can be observed. The composer writes a lot of music for drama performances and movies.
