In this bitterly joyful story, J. Puccini tells the story of an elegant courtesan and a naive and idealistic young man who shows her a completely different world. The lead role of the French courtesan Magda is played by soprano Angel Blue, while the role of the poor boy, Rudger, is also the Metropolitan debut of American tenor Jonathan Tetelman. He will be joined by soprano Emily Pogorelc (USA) and tenor Bekhzod Davronov (Uzbekistan) in their New York debuts on the prestigious New York stage.
This rarely staged opera combines the glamour of a Viennese operetta with the romance and tragedy of a classic Italian opera. La Rondine is revived at the Metropolitan after a hiatus of more than a decade. Directed by French director Nicolas Joël, who died in 2020, the opera takes the audience to the dreamy French Riviera of the 1930s and into the frenzied nightlife of Paris.
