On the occasion of Lithuania's Independence Day, the Vilnius Tango Theatre, having collected Lithuanian tangos and been inspired by them, invites you to the premiere of Last Sunday.
It is said that a guest who would take a seat in the famous pre-war restaurants of Kaunas, would quickly lose track of where he was - in Berlin or Paris. Perhaps it was because of the incomparable violinist Moishe Hofmekler and the popular music ensembles he led. In the 1930s and 1940s, Lithuania grew economically stronger, a Lithuanian city culture gradually took shape, and Kaunas became the cradle of Lithuanian jazz. The city's restaurants and cafés were home to the first small orchestras, made up of local artists and visiting musicians with excellent academic backgrounds. Restaurant culture came to independent Lithuania from Western Europe. The radio came into being, and its waves were used to broadcast to listeners the music of Lithuanian entertainers from the Lithuanian small stage. In addition to foxtrots and polkas, there was a new style of music - the tango - in the voices of Danielius Dolskis, Antanas Šabaniauskas and Antanina Dambrauskaitė.
These are the people who brought this wonderful culture to our country, and we, inspired by them, have created a story of how it could have been.
