The author dedicates this series of photographs to the memory of her mother. The number 27 is associated with certain stages in the life of Šulskytė's mother. The series of photographs took R. Šulskytė almost five years to create. In the opinion of art historian Danguolė Ruškienė, "Regina Šulskytė's photography has always been a balancing act between personal and shared experiences, highlighting the essential moments of human existence. Her photographic cycles are like parts of a film - as we travel from one story to another, time, contexts and details change, and certain emotions appear and disappear. However, the main characters almost always remain the same. On the other hand, in each of her series of photographs, she emphasises a different angle of life, uncovering a layer of life that has not yet been explored. She has a clear message. Everything - the past and the present, the anxiety about the thinning circle of loved ones, the loss of the most precious people - is also a self-formation, maybe even its essential moments. Man, like his life, is made up of many layers, lying year after year on his maturing body. Šulskytė's latest series Twenty-seven Returns (2018-2023) is a natural continuation of her work. Obviously, she does not need to stimulate her feelings or her thoughts now, as additional efforts would seem too demonstrative. It is enough to refer to real experiences and experiences and not to prevent them from collapsing into the planes of photographs. Perhaps that is why there is no doubt that everything in her photography must be like this and not otherwise. Nothing can change or adjust here. Isn't this what it looks like to realise that time is not in our hands, but we are in its power?" The exhibition will be on view at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Centre for Cultural Communications (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda) until 28 April.
