Andrius and Liuka, the children of village neighbours Šatai and Kaminskas, fall in love with each other, but their first love is brought to an end... by a cow. When the horn sold to the Kaminskys by the Shatas dies, a warlike feud develops between the elders. When the neighbours quarrel, the love of Andrius and Liuka becomes forbidden. Hoping to bring peace back to the family, Andrius is reluctant to let go and promises to buy Liuka a new cow himself. But his nice wishes only make things worse. This is a lyrical story where tender memories of childhood in the countryside, first romantic feelings and the beginning of real life are intertwined with tragicomic misunderstandings and human frailties.
