The new canvases created by R. Plungė are familiar, but completely different. They are marked by a particularly bold and expressive brushstroke, contrasting colours, obvious and extraordinary layering of paint, minimal and suggestive collage and drawing. The composition of Plungė's paintings is such that it can be called a coherent register of traces of a spontaneous act of painting. In the abstract (at)images there exists what can be called a reflection of the author's personal reality, raising many questions about personal mythology. The painting seems to be permeated by visible (seen) motifs, changes in landscapes, philosophical reflections. In this way, form and content connect with each other in an intensive and associative way. Painting (seemingly instantaneously) takes on both sensory and intellectual significance. Although Plunge's paintings are abstract, they are not marked by frivolity. It requires a great deal of intellectual effort to read it. The solid cycles of works form a certain hint of a structural system. The Šiauliai Art Gallery (Vilniaus g. 245) will be open until 16 February.
