R. Plungė's work, and especially his paintings, are characterised by bright colour combinations, open brushstrokes and the possibility of manipulating space-time through collage techniques. Collage is perhaps the most postmodern way of creating a contemporary painting. This technique allows us to reject traditional treatments of painting and the escalation of the pictorial tradition of art. The deliberate use of collage also directly correlates with the titles of the works; it defragments the real world. Fragments of real, popular culture (fragments of magazine notes, photo-illustration cut-outs, travel tickets, pieces of packaging) drown in the brushstrokes and come to the surface. All the fragments can be understood as references to what pops up in one's memory, what unexpectedly emerges as an artefact affecting the senses; as the presence of a memorable state or a visit to an exotic corner of the earth
