This evening the audience will have a rare opportunity to hear authentic music from the Baroque era performed on historical instruments. The ensemble Tra Noi from Switzerland, masters of early music, will present a concert programme at the Kaunas Philharmonic. The ensemble, which was formed in early 2023, immediately won awards in early music competitions: the Vienna Concert Hall Prize at the Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber Competition, the Audience Choice Prize at the Biagio Marini and Göttingen Georg Friedrich Handel Competitions, and the First Prize at the Loire Valley International Early Music Competition. This year Tra Noi has performed at the Turin Chamber Music Festival, the Vienna Concert Hall, the Georg Philipp Telemann Society of Magdeburg, the Innsbruck Early Music Festival, the Cologne Philharmonic's Originalklang Festival and others.
The ensemble will appear in Lithuania for the first time with the programme "Telemann Travels to the East".
As the performers say, the programme explores the influence of Eastern European folk music in the works of the famous German Baroque composer G.P.Telemann. While serving the Count of Sorau in what is now Poland, inspired by folk music, G. Ph. Telemann collected and wrote down folk melodies, using elements of them in his compositions. In addition to G. Ph. G. Ph. Telemann's works, the concert will feature a sonata by the Polish Baroque composer Stanislaw Sylwester Szarzynski and authentic folklore from the Uhrovec Manuscript, a collection of Gypsy melodies and dances discovered in Slovakia in the 18th century.
