The ensemble debuted in 1993 under the name "Trio Alliance". With a gap of sometimes several years between concerts, each performance is an intriguing event: as personalities change, so does their music.
The trio has performed in many Lithuanian venues, in Israel, at the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland, and has released an album on Leo Records.
Grands meet when jazz keyboardist and composer Vyacheslavas Ganelinas comes back to Lithuania. Maestro has lived in Israel since 1987. Prior to that, he worked for almost 20 years (1968-1984) as head of the music department of the Lithuanian State Russian Drama Theatre, during which time he composed a wide range of academic music, composed for cinema and theatre, and was awarded several prizes. Vyacheslav Ganelin has written music for more than 60 films and more than 40 plays, as well as three operas, several ballets, 6 musicals, and concertos for a variety of instruments.
However, in the world of jazz, the maestro is best known as the leader of the legendary trio with Vladimir Chekasin and Vladimir Tarasov. This ensemble existed from 1971 to 1986 and gave a powerful impulse to the Lithuanian jazz school. Its traditions are still alive in the work of Vilnius jazz musicians.
It was the first Soviet Union ensemble to make a name for itself in Europe with its authentic, non-imitative American jazz. It has established itself in the history of world jazz music as one of the most prominent non-American jazz bands of all time.
Saxophonist, professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Petras Vyšniauskas is one of the founders of the Lithuanian professional saxophone school. His illustrious musical career spans more than three decades. He is the country's most celebrated jazz composer. His discography includes more than 60 albums.
He has collaborated with many well-known jazz, classical and folk musicians, including the Prague Philharmonic and the New York St. He has performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Luke's Symphony Orchestra, the Paris Radio Choir and the Metropolitan Opera Choir, folk singer Veronika Povilioniene and birby singer Antanas Smolskus, jazz guitarist Fred Frith, and pianists Bob Stenson, Karl Berger, saxophonists Steve Lacy and Charlie Mariano, double bassists Kent Carter and Vladimir Volkov, trumpeters Tomasz Stanko and Herb Robertson, drummers Han Bennink and Klaus Kugel.
One of the most inventive and prolific Lithuanian jazz artists, percussionist and composer Arkadijus Gotesmanas has been a fixture on the Lithuanian jazz scene for three decades, never ceasing to amaze with interesting ideas and projects with artists from other fields.
He composes and records music for the theatre, performs it in plays, writes scripts for musical performances and installations, organises projects with dancers, writers, actors and visual artists, as well as author's performances.
