About the Foundation The "Mstislavo Rostropovičiaus Labdaros Ir Paramos Fondas "Pagalba Lietuvos Vaikams"' is one of the most prominent examples of philanthropy in Lithuania, founded on 12 April 2003.Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich (1927-2007), a world-renowned cellist, conductor and human rights advocate, initiated the foundation to support talented young Lithuanian musicians and to give them the opportunity to develop and perform on the world's greatest stages. Activities and Achievements The Foundation successfully supports children with exceptional artistic talents, helping them to realise their dreams and perform with world-famous orchestras, as well as helping children with rare and difficult-to-treat diseases. With the involvement of its scholarship holders, the Foundation organises a unique charity concert every year to raise funds for the purchase of necessary equipment and medicines for the Vilnius University Santariškės Clinic. Since 2006, the Foundation has been one of the founding members of the National Academy of Schoolchildren, further expanding its influence and commitment in the fields of education and art. Mstislav Rostropovich and His Connection to Lithuania As a world-class musician and philanthropist, Mstislav Rostropovich devoted the proceeds of his concerts for 25 years to charity, supporting a wide range of initiatives and projects worldwide. His relationship with Lithuania has been particularly close - since his first visit to Lithuania in 1973, the Maestro has maintained a warm friendship with Lithuanian musicians and has often performed with local ensembles. Maestro Rostropovich not only promoted the development of music in Lithuania, but also took an active part in supporting the country's independence. Foundation Today Thanks to Mstislav Rostropovich and the establishment of his foundation "Help for Lithuanian Children", nearly 70 young Lithuanian musicians have had the opportunity to develop and be taught by the world-renowned musician. The Foundation's work is still vital today for young talent and sick children, and the Maestro's legacy lives on through every project and event of the Foundation, spreading the love of music and helping those who need help the most.
