About the Choir The "Vilniaus Miesto Savivaldybės Choras "Jauna Muzika"' is one of the most prominent and capable vocal ensembles in Lithuania, founded in 1989 on the initiative of the conductor and composer Remigijus Merkelis and the choir's first director Algimantas Gurevičius. Since 1992, the choir's artistic director and conductor has been the composer Vaclovas Augustinas, who is renowned in the world of both popular and academic music in Lithuania, and was awarded the National Prize for Culture and Art in 2010. Activities "Jauna Muzika" represents the work of Lithuanian composers and offers listeners music from different eras, from a cappella choral scores to vocal-instrumental masterpieces and premieres. The choir performs more than 30 concerts every year in Lithuania and abroad, gaining international recognition for its high level of professional excellence. Important Partnerships and Projects The Choir collaborates with world-renowned baton masters and ensembles, participates in important international festivals and initiates significant musical projects. The latter include courses in the interpretation and conducting of choral music, the Vox Juventutis competition of works for choir by young composers, and many unique musical productions. International Activities "Jauna Muzika" performs extensively at international festivals and in some of the world's most renowned venues, including the Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Music Hall and the Shanghai Grand Opera House. The choir is a member of the International Federation of Choral Music and has won numerous international awards. Discography "Jauna Muzika" has recorded 19 CDs, which are an important contribution to the musical heritage of Lithuania and the world. Their repertoire includes both traditional choral music and works by contemporary composers, testifying to the choir's high artistic challenges and creative courage. Rating "Jauna Muzika" has won the GRAND PRIX EUROPEO, "Auksinio disko", "Vilniaus garso" prizes and first prizes and grand prizes in 15 international choral competitions, cementing its place among the world's choral music elite.
