Šiauliai Art Gallery was founded in 1992. Since then, the gallery has been one of the most important fine art centers in Northern Lithuania, where exhibitions of the city's artists, domestic and foreign fine art are held.
Since its foundation, the Šiauliai Art Gallery has been creating the city's cultural identity and symbolizing the city's creative powers by promoting artistic innovations. The gallery initiates various fine art projects, creates opportunities for young creators to realize their boldest ideas, organizes overview thematic and personal exhibitions of artists.
By preparing interdisciplinary art projects, the gallery purposefully spreads the ideas of contemporary art, and presents the most interesting trends in fine art, music, dance, and fashion during its festivals. By spreading the ideas of the importance of culture, creative freedom and artistic pursuits, the gallery actively participates in the cultural life of the city and the republic.
Since the gallery is guided by the principles of an art center open to various types of art in its activities, it hosts various thematic events of experimental, electronic, jazz, and classical music.
The Šiauliai Art Gallery is also an important center for the dissemination of film art. The programs of various non-commercial film festivals of the country are presented in the gallery.In the Šiauliai art gallery, educational programs are also carried out, thematic lecture series are held for residents of the city of Šiauliai, conferences and seminars are held, and the contemporary art information office operates.
