During the LDK, the territory of the square was in the Vilnius suburb area. 16th-19th centuries in the first half, in a sparsely built-up environment, Vilnius St. George's Church, and part of the square was covered by a garden. in 1836 after building St. Jurgis avenue was formed by St. George Square.i
n 1865 By the order of M. Muravyov, the Alexander Neviškis chapel was built, which was dedicated to the fallen rioters. in 1919 the chapel was demolished, a fountain-monument to E. Ožeškiene was installed in its place. Cherniachovskii. in 1950 a monument to I. Cherniachovskii (sculptor Nikolajus Tomskis) was erected on the square. in 1976 the square was reconstructed.

Chernyakhovsky was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow). in 2002 the square was reconstructed by building an underground parking lot under Gediminas Avenue. in 2007 the square was named after V. Kudirka, and in 2009 a monument was built for him.
