Merūnas Vitulskis started his vocal studies quite late in his hometown Kaunas. After graduating from school in 2005, he studied classical singing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT), Kaunas faculty, with Jonas Antanavičius, whom Merūnas describes not only as a vocal pedagogue, but also as "a teacher of life".
Encouraged by his early recognition in light music, Merūnas continued his studies in Vilnius (LAMTA) with Prof. Virgilijus Noreika, one of the most respected Lithuanian tenors and influential teachers, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in opera singing and is currently pursuing a Master's degree at the VMU Faculty of Humanities under the guidance of the distinguished opera soloist, Prof. Vladimirs Prudnikovas.
Merūnas made his debut as an opera soloist in Terrence McNally's play Master Class as Maria Kalas's student Tony, performing arias of Puccini (2007, directed by Gytis Padegimas at the Vilnius Malaya Theatre).
Having attracted the attention of the academic community and the LNOBT, he soon made his debut as "Nemorino" at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in G.Donizzetti's opera L'elisir d'amore.
After the premiere, he was offered a job with Cademi artist management, an academic music agency, which led to his first international debut, the small role of Hervey in Donizzetti's "Anna Bolena" at the St. Moritz."
In the same year, he made his debut, in the role of Lenski in P.The tenor was nominated for the Golden Stage Cross and awarded the Opera Lighthouse nomination Debut of the Year for his debut in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, directed by Vasilij Barchatov, conducted by Robertas Šervenikas.
With this role, he gave a great performance at the Estonian Opera and Ballet Theatre Vanemuine in Tartu, directed by Dima Bertman and conducted by Paul Megi
One of the tenor's most notable roles is Alfredo, in the opera La Traviata by G.Verdi. He made his debut with this role in Spain in Royal Opera, directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, and at the prestigious Bilbao theatre Abba-Olbe, where he prepared the role with the renowned conductor Kerilyn Wilson. He also made his debut with this role at the Estonian and Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatres, to very positive reviews.
Shortly afterwards, after excellent reviews, the tenor was invited to work with the renowned Hollywood director Robert Dornhelm in Austria, at one of the biggest opera festivals, "St'Margarethen". He made his debut as Rudolf in G.Puccini in La Boheme, his debut was covered by leading Austrian cultural publications, and the Austrian Cultural News (ORF2 TV) gave him the following praise: "Merūnas Vitulskis is a discovery of the St'Margarethen Festival, a promising tenor who possesses a wide range of colours in his voice, and who is gifted with a masterful pianissimo by nature".
In Austria, his debut did not go unnoticed, "Stadttheater Klagenfurt" invited him to play Maduf in Verdi's Macbeth", which was also a success for this young tenor. In the same season, Merūnas was invited to sing at the Essen Opera Theatre in Puccini's La Boheme in the role of Rudolph, where he warmed up, but not long afterwards and quite unexpectedly, after the illness of the tenor Vittorio Grigolo, saving the production, he debuted at the prestigious National Opera Theatre of Austria, Wiener Staatsoper. Amidst the great word of mouth about the talented tenor, the reviews reached the Opera Graz Theatre. In both theatres, Merun shone as a master of belcanto in Puccini's "Le Boheme".
The tenor made his debut at the French opera theatre Opera de Lille, where he performed the role of B.The role of Pinkerton in G.Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly" was broadcast live in the main squares of the largest cities in France and Belgium and on national television. Later on, Merūnas worked with this role at the Luxembourg Grand Opera Theatre , Luxembourg opera grand theater under the direction of. Jean François Sivadier in the production of the above-mentioned production, on opening night, in the presence of the family of the Duke of Luxembourg.
Amongst all the employment abroad, Merūnas is constantly invited to work in LNOBT productions, he never forgets who his country is and the responsibility he must feel working abroad under the name of the Lithuanian Tenor, no exception being the famous Anthony Minghella (UK) production Mr. Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" opera, having toured almost the whole world, allowed the soloist to appreciate the potential of his voice in the role of B.F. Pinkerton as a tenor in Lyrico spinto - a strong lyrical tenor. In the last two years the tenor has performed the role of Alfredo in G.Verdi's La Traviata in Naples, Italy, at the legendary opera house San Carlo, where he was conducted by one of Italy's most famous conductors, Nello Santi, considered to be an Italian National Treasure. At his next creative stop, the Austrian Wiener Staatsoper, the soloist sang in the theatre's production of G.Puccini's opera La Boheme - Rudolfo - a role he sang with Angela Gheorghiu in Mimi .
In the same season at the Stadttheater lagenfurt, the tenor took part in the G.Puccini's production of "Madame Butterfly", in which he performed the role of B.F.Pinkerton. In 2017, it was with the latter role that he made his British debut in four theatres, Leeds Grand Theatre, The Lowry Opera, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Newcastle Theatre Royal.The critics of The Times, Bach Track, On Magazine, British theatre guide, Wharfedale Observer, The Stage responded to the superb production of the show with praise, writing an excellent review of the tenor. Shortly after his contract in the United Kingdom, and without abandoning his concert activity, Berliner Philharmoniker gave a recital-concert under the baton of Constantin Orbelian, accompanied by the Royal Symphonic Orchestra.
Already this year 2019, the tenor will make his debut at the Opera Kassel in Germany in the role of B.F.Pinkerton. Later this year, Merūnas returns to the Graz Opera in Austria with this role.
