Born on 27 June 1932 in Skėrių village, Pasvalys district.
He lost his parents early and lived in Kaunas, later in Plungė district. In 1943 he graduated from Paukštakiai Primary School, and in 1952 from Klaipėda Agricultural Technical College (now Klaipėda State College). In 1954, he graduated from the Klaipėda Teachers' Institute, where he studied at the Nature and Geography Department. In 1958 he graduated from Vilnius Pedagogical University (now the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences). At that time, his plays were already being actively staged in theatres. Author of articles in various cultural publications, public figure, signatory of the Act of Independence of March 11.
