Biography
Born on 27 November 1944 in Leonava village, Raseiniai district.
1950-1953 - studied at Kretinga secondary school. In 1953 she was exiled to Siberia. 1953-1959 - studied at the seven-year school of forestry in Mezhdugranka Forest Farm in Irkutsk region of Russia. In 1959-1962 she worked as a forestry worker. After returning to Lithuania, from 1962-1963 she attended evening school and worked on the Mosėdis vegetable farm. In 1968, she entered the Faculty of History at Vilnius State University (now Vilnius University), graduating in 1974 with a degree in journalism. From 1967 to 1989 she worked at the "Raidė" and V. Kapsukas-Mickevičius printing houses, at the "Žinija" Society, as the director of the Kaunas Artists' House, as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Jaunystė", and as the editor of the magazine "Gabija". During the period of revival, she founded the Madai and Poetry Theatre, the children's newspaper "Tukas", the "Modilina" training centre, and the "Gabija" magazine. From 1989 to 2000 she worked in the closed joint stock company "Gabija". 2000-2016 - Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, elected under the Liberal Movement list. In the Seimas, she served on the Committee on Education, Science and Culture, the Committee on Family and Children's Affairs and the Committee on Business and Employment, and was the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Ethics and Procedures Committee. She currently serves on the Committee for the Development of the Information Society, the Ethics and Procedures Committee, the Migration Commission, the Lithuanian World Community Commission, is Chair of the Friendship Group with the Portuguese Parliament, and Vice-Chair of the Women's Parliamentary Group. In 2002, she was elected as a member of Kaunas City Municipal Council, but resigned her seat due to the decision of the Constitutional Court. Member of the Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania, member of the Kaunas branch of the Association of Lithuanian University Women, President of the Kaunas Women's Club Ad ASTRA, member of the Lithuanian Union of Journalists, member of the International Union of Publicists and Writers. She has written more than 400 lyrics for stage songs, about 300 articles for Lithuanian and foreign publications. Currently, she works for the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission.
