In 1970 he graduated from Vilnius State Institute of Art (now Vilnius Academy of Arts). Pioneer of serigraphy in Lithuania. Earlier works were created by etching, dry needle, since the 1980s works are created by serigraphy technique. The artist's style crystallised at that time, his works looked extremely modern and avant-garde, but they were unacceptable to the ideologised nomenclature of the time, which prevented them from being included in exhibitions. The works of this period are colourful, emotional, laconic, monumental, sometimes ironic, with the human being at the centre of attention. The artist's work has been appreciated in Lithuania and abroad. He has created ex-libris, posters, illustrations for books, examples of small sculpture. Since 2000, he has been creating acrylic paintings. From 1989 to 2007, he taught at the Graphic Arts Department of Vilnius Academy of Arts and was awarded the title of Professor. The Artseria publishing house published a book with reproductions of his works, Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis (2003). He writes articles for periodicals, published the books "Tortas" (2009), "Sriuba" (2014), and together with Antanas A. Jonynas - "Paskutinės dienos Itakėje" (2007, all published by Tyto alba). Laureate of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize (2004). His works have been acquired by museums such as the Lithuanian Art Museum, the Modern Art Centre, and art collectors in Lithuania and many foreign countries. Wife - graphic artist Nijolė Vilutienė, children: son - Gediminas (1970), daughters - Aldona (1974), Emilija (1977).
