Italian music, who successfully worked as a theoretician, conductor, composer and pedagogue, became one of the main representatives of the musical avant-garde. He is known for his experimental work (notably his 1968 composition Sinfonia and his series of virtuosic solo works entitled Sequenza) as well as his pioneering work in electronic music.
