Danzi's father, Innocenzo Danzi, was a cellist for the famous Mannheim Orchestra and taught him keyboards, singing, and flute. Later, he studied composition with Abbe Vogler and married singer/violinist Margarethe Marchand. Danzi inherited his father's position in the Munich orchestra in 1783 and traveled Europe with his wife from 1790 until her death in 1800. In 1807, Danzi became Kapellmeister of the Wuttenburg Court, where he befriended Spohr and especially the young Weber. In 1812, he became Kapellmeister in Karlsruhe, successfully expanding the orchestra and writing his best works.
