Georges Enesco was a Romanian composer, pianist, and conductor. He was also a skilled violinist who studied under Martin Marsick at the Paris Conservatoire in the 1890s. Despite his talent, Enesco did not compose a violin concerto and objected to being called a virtuoso. He preferred conducting over violin playing, but he loved teaching the instrument. Enesco wrote three symphonies, an opera, and other chamber music, but he is best known for his two Romanian Rhapsodies. He died in Paris in 1955 at the age of 74.
