Gabriel-Urbain Fauré was a French composer born on 12 May 1845. He learned composition from Saint-Saëns, won a first prize for composition, and held various positions as an organ player. Fauré was one of the founders of Socié Nationale de Musique and became the composition teacher at the Paris Conservatory in 1896. He passed away in Paris on 4 November 1924. Fauré developed a musical style that adhered to the French tradition and is credited as a forerunner of impressionism.
