Jean Françaix was a prolific composer who began composing at the age of six and continued to do so throughout his life. He studied piano under Isidor Philipp and composition for a time under Nadia Boulanger at the Paris Conservatory. Among his compositions are operas, ballets, orchestral and concerted works, chamber pieces, film scores, choral music, and songs. He was influenced by Maurice Ravel and his beautifully crafted compositions are continuous with the French national tradition.
