American pianist, one of the most famous of the 20th century. virtuoso pianists.
Born in a Jewish family in the Russian Empire (Kiev, elsewhere it is stated in Berdychiv). in 1921 graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory. He toured the Russian Empire, which was devastated after the civil war, and held 23 concerts in Petrograd. in 1925 emigrated initially to Germany, and from 1928 lived in New York. Already after his debut concert at Carnegie Hall, he received great admiration there. Later, he performed in the United States and European countries, trained young pianists (Nick Kaufman, Ivan Davis, Byron Jenis, Garry Grafman, etc.).
Vladimir Horowitz's repertoire consisted mainly of works by Piotr Tchaikovsky, Ferenc Liszt, Modest Mussorgsky, Alexander Scriabin, Frederic Chopin. Made many piano paraphrases and transcriptions.
Vladimir Horovic has been awarded 26 Grammy Awards (including Lifetime Achievement in 1990), French, Italian, and US state awards.
